Shrine of Our Lady of Cassi Hill
The pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Cassi Hill had its origin in 1947, two years after the end of World War II. The shrine was located on a piece of property owned by Leon Mason. In 1979 the shrine site was deeded to the Holy Family Parish. The purpose of the pilgrimage from the start was twofold: to pray for lasting peace in the world, and ask the Mother of God to intercede for the protection of the island against hurricanes.
For many years the procession would start at the bottom of Cassi Hill (where the Four Winds Shopping Center is now located.) But when Holy Family Parish was founded, a decision was made to begin the pilgrimage with the celebration of Mass, and then to have a short procession from the Church to the shrine, where Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament would take place. A former pastor of Holy Family Church, Rev. Msgr. Jerome Feudjio, continuously urged parishioners and guests to visit the shrine. Throughout the year, various Marian devotions and liturgical celebrations take place on this very sacred site. The shrine is open every day for meditation and peaceful visits.
The Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Cassi Hill is celebrated each year on the feast of the Assumption of Mary (August 15). In the recent years the order and time of the procession have been modified as follows: The celebration takes place in the afternoon on the nearest Sunday to the 15th of August. It begins with a procession from The Four Winds Plaza Mall and ends with Mass and benediction in the Shrine of Cassi Hill. Everyone is invited to the pilgrimage and to the fellowship during which food and light refreshments are served.
